Games
PR.com, 8/8/2023, Los Angeles, California Only a few short months after celebrating their seventh year in business, Shero Comics will introduce their new video gaming division, Shero Games, at the Jrue & & Lauren Holiday Social Impact Fund’s Dual-Court Classic on August 5th, 2023, in Los Angeles.
Despite the fact that women make up 48% of the gaming population, just 6% of games feature a female protagonist. Shero Games plans to fill this void by creating mobile, PC, and Roblox video games featuring women and women of colour as the main protagonists, drawing inspiration from a wealth of Black female-led comics IPs like Rayven Choi, Squad Goals, The Legend of Cahokia, and Young Grandmaster Choi.
Since its release on July 19, 2016—just days before the annual San Diego Comic Con—Shero Comics has garnered praise from fans, publishers, artists, and, most recently, donors.
“Though I’ve been a player my entire life, it wasn’t until I displayed at my first comic con in 2016 that a designer approached me about turning Rayven Choi into a computer game,” said Shequeta L. Smith, renowned author and creator of Shero Comics. Now that I’ve developed a few more intellectual properties, I feel prepared to create a video game centred on female characters.
In 2022, Shero Games was able to create the prototype for their first mobile game app thanks to a small funding from digitalundivided funded by JP Morgan Chase. Two very competitive humanitarian programmes, Goldman Sachs’ One Million Black Women: Black in Business spring associate and the Jrue & & Lauren Holiday Social Impact (JLH) Fund, out of more than 1800 total applications, picked the company to help with the impending launch in 2023.
A smartphone game similar to Subway Surfers, “Rayven Choi: Reaper’s Run,” developed by Shero Games and based on the critically renowned graphic novel Rayven Choi, will be released. Rayven, the game’s main protagonist, evolves from a Reaper, a powerful hit man, to an expert in ancient Korean art and culture.
The JLH Fund, founded by Olympians and recipients of the 2023 Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian ESPY Award, Jrue and Lauren Holiday, is not only hosting the soft launch of Shero Games during their upcoming August 5th Dual-Court Classic, a star basketball and soccer competition that aims to raise Black creators for Black Business & & Philanthropy Month, but they will also match what Shero Games raises this October on the Fund Black Founders platform. Guests will be the first people in the world to receive a sneak peek at the game and play it live during the event.
During the first three months of 2024, Rayven Choi: Reaper’s Run will be downloadable via the iTunes App Store and the Google Play Store. Visit www.sherocomics.com for more details on Shero Comics and Shero Games.
