Henry Thurlow is the first American to direct an episode of the One Piece anime series, which has a history spanning decades. Thurlow’s new role as director was first revealed in the July issue of Newtype.

On Friday, American animator Henry Thurlow working in Japan revealed on Twitter that he directed One Piece episode 1066. Thurlow and the Toei Animation production team consider him the first non-Japanese episode director for One Piece or “possibly any Toei Animation tv series.

Episode 1066, Henry Thurlow’s directorial debut, is scheduled to air for the first time on June 25. According to the show’s current trajectory, the episode will likely centre on the resolution of the conflict between Eustass Kid and Big Mom and Trafalgar Law.

Sweetness & & Lightning, Nurse Witch Komugi R, ClassicaLoid, Naruto Shippuden, and Tokyo Ghoul are just a few of the notable projects that Thurlow has worked on. Starting in July 2021, he contributed to the One Piece series and the One Piece Film Red as an animator for Toei Animation.
